A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.Lao Tzu

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes.  After that, who cares?  He’s a mile away and you’ve got his shoes.” (Sir) Billy Connolly

Hi.  I’m walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, and you’re coming with me.

For some, the Camino is a Pilgrimage, a deeply spiritual, mystical, cultish experience, a journey of self-discovery – a bit like Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy infused with Opus Dei.  For me, it’s an opportunity to cut down on my drinking, get some “me-time”, cultivate a suntan and get fit.  Deep, huh?

You were expected this blog to come from someone else, so you’re wondering “WTF is Des Grundy?”  Let me amplify.  He’s fictional, but he’s not.  He’s me, but he’s not.  He has an email address, so he must be real.  Clear, huh?

Some time ago, I received a cold-call from a man trying to flog me insurance.  His name was Des Grundy.  It had a ring to it.  Part spiv, part nice guy.  Very English.  I liked the ring, the timbre – and it provoked endless amusement with a number of my American colleagues.  So, I adopted  it.

Des’ tagline is “Live to slight another day”.  He doesn’t do politically correct.  Des is a cynical SOB who doesn’t hold back.  You’ll see.  Says it as he sees it – and most probably articulating what you’re thinking but were too uncomfortable to say.  No filter.  And, what’s wrong with that?

Surprisingly, Des has a wife.  Doris.  They’ve been married 22 years, though it feels considerably longer to both.  She’s five feet three, one hundred and five pounds of cask-matured piss and vinegar.  He may wear the shirt and tie, but that bitch, she wears the trousers.  Make no mistake.

Doris is responsible for this blog site.  All complaints to her at dorisgrundy@planetphyxius.com.  Don’t expect a civil response.  She doesn’t do complaints.

Lastly, this blog is for my friend, Bill Pickens. He’s keeping an eye on me from a newly-elevated vantage point, probably wondering what possessed me to do something like this….  Thank you Bill.
